Checking the lines!
Our last day on the Caldon, as we were making our way down we heard a Helicopter. It sounded very close but didn't appear as quickly as we expected. When it did appear it was flying very slowly as it was inspecting the electricity lines on the pylon. For a snap shot I was quite pleased with this one.
This trip we have seen very few Herons, quite a lot of Kingfishers but none cooperating by staying still. It was quite a surprise then to arrive at Planet Lock just before the Etruria Staircase to find another boat working the lock and a Heron sitting quite unconcerned about a boats length away on an overflow. See extra.
We needed to top up the water tank at the Etruria junction. Big mistake. We top up the tank "little and often". This ensures we always have plenty of water for showers etc and don't waste time tied up at a tap for too long. When we arrived there was a boat filling up, not usually a problem as most people seem todo as we do. Unfortunately this couple didn't! They hadn't filled up for 6 days so we had an hour wait before we could start to fill up. As a result we didn't noor until 7:00 far later than we usually do.
