Speckled Wood

Today's the day ..................… to sunbathe

An unexpectedly (to me, at any rate) warm and sunny day today - so I took myself off for a woodland walk along the western shore of Kirkcudbright bay.

There were lots of these Speckled Woods about, enjoying the sunshine as I was.  They would obligingly perch in a sunny spot long enough for me to take a picture - and then they would fly off, spiralling into the air to chase each other.  They are rarely seen feeding on flowers because apparently they feed on honeydew in the treetops.

The tide was high in the bay and there were quite a few boats going about their business - including this smart one (see extra) with the red sails ……………………...
