The Wren

Dance with me ...

Well the forecast was spot on and there was a good covering of snow when I awoke and by the time I had trudged through the snow to my yoga class I looked like the abominable snowman and almost turned back as I felt I had done my exercise for the day!

As I was enjoying my lunch I noticed out of the window this sight of a big group of chaffinches all taking shelter from the snow. At one time I counted 16 in the one tree. This particular chaffinch caught my eye as I think he felt he was well hidden from the camera behind the snow covered branches.

It continued to snow throughout the day and so the walk through the woods and onto the moor was wonderful, often treading on paths of virgin snow - until the dogs charged through. Despite the snowy conditions I did manage to take some photos which all could have been my blip but I have such a love for this dancing tree that this shot won the day with the snow covered larch jauntily swaying to an unheard rhythm against the white, snow filled sky, complete with its zing of red. If you wish to see the landscape which should be visible beyond the tree please look here.

Before I left for the walk I had tried Bruce with his new coat, bought in an attempt to help reduce the number of snowballs he gathers. He finally allowed me to put it on, with lots of cuddles, reassurance and telling him how good he was! Well, poor love, it was a bit big for him and he obviously felt decidedly silly. Cara was really intrigued but as she pranced up to him you could almost hear him say with his body language - "Don't you dare say a word .... this was not my idea!". He did keep it on and was happily running around but very quickly two feet escaped and so I had to take it off and will source a smaller one! At least I know he will wear it, with a little persuasion, and it should prevent his legs and undercarriage attracting snowballs.
