Diary of an Edinburgher

New boots (again)

Another lovely day, though a cool start. I took Archie out for his morning walk, and look who we met! (Extra 1) . When I came back, JR went off to the gym, while I waited all morning for the boiler man, who did not turn up.

Elizabeth took Archie out, and we set off for town, to return yesterday’s boots (and to pick up today’s choice.) I was tempted to walk, instead of bussing, with the promise of a coffee at Kauai

JR checked that she had everything, as usual - sunglasses, keys, phone, tissues, hand sanitiser etc. But half way down the road, she remembered that she didn’t have her face mask (as usual). How long has it been compulsory to wear masks in shops? Several weeks... Anyway, after walking back home, while I kept going, she caught me up in the Meadows. She can break into a sprint at will.

A sit down with coffee and a shared wrap, all ordered on my phone from the table, and I could walk on into town. The city centre was mobbed. Loads of young folk swarming on the pavements. So when we got to town, I went and sat in the Gardens and listened to a podcast while JR nipped through the crowds to her shop. She came back with new boots, licorice and a Prêt soya flat white for me (I have trained her well).

We continued walking through the Gardens, and it was busy with people making the most of the sunny day.

We walked to the Grassmarket, with the promise of an ice cream at Mary’s Milk Bar, but it was too busy, with a queue right up the Vennel steps. There was a market and the pubs were doing a good business with their outdoor seating. It was gorgeous walking home over the Meadows. (Extra 2)

Called in on Rufus and his mum for a sit down and to admire the new fireplace again.

All in all, a pretty good day, with lots of treats.

PS Steps: Me 11, 082;  JR 21,092!!

PPS 2 litres of water drunk in the morning!
