Hollow legs

Another busy day....Started by sorting my hair then did the ironing and some work and finished prep for lunch. Ad and his friend Al arrived and, as predicted/hoped, hoovered up the steak pie, mash, veg, chocolate mousse, biscuits and fruit whilst chatting happily about their experience settling into uni. They seemed resigned to the very reduced version of fresher's week and what seems to be an entirely online learning experience. Pleased how relaxed Ad was - he seems to have found a few friends and is happy spending most of his time hanging out playing cards and chatting in their dorm kitchen, with the occasional trip to (a pre-booked table in) a pub in their small group. They're clearly not conforming absolutely to the letter of the rules but in the circumstances are managing really well and being sensible whilst also recognising they have to carve out a way to live in all of this - maybe for a good chunk of their future.
Left them to go and do some shopping whilst I nipped to see M&B who I haven't seen for a year. We sat in the garden over tea and scones. They both had the virus in early March and M has been left with lingering symptoms of tiredness and shortness of breath and some muscle weakening - rather sobering. He went to lay down after a short chat and then B and I talked more - about David Hume, Beethoven's upcoming anniversary, medieval bookbinding, family and baking. I've missed them.
Back home in time to take Ad back to campus with his doggy bags of baking and purchases from the local charity shops.
Home and tidied up before settling down with a hot toddy ready for another busy week. Classes start tomorrow!
