Reading the sky

Having progressed from map and compass skills to cloud identification (thanks to E’s gift) I can confidently say that the cloud in the middle of this blip is altocumulus, or alternatively cirrocumulus.
The hill is Ben Lomond which I climbed today, my first solo Munro. The top cleared an hour or so before I summited and then cleared again a couple of hours later. In between times the clouds descended and while visibility was reasonably good there was next to no view.
A great walk with the ascend feeling easier than the descent, knees and ankles not so flexible as they used to be. Sunshine for a short while as I stretched out on Rowardennan shore, drank my coffee, ate my spare energy bar and watched some young ones shriek and dook in the Loch, I restrained from telling them that compared with water temperature a few weeks ago it is now positively balmy. They apologised for their noise which was gracious and unnessary. They had the air of students having “clean fun” with due regard to social distancing.
