Robin Redbreast

Today's the day ……………………….. for shades of autumn

Robins are lovely at any time - but they really come into their own in autumn.

If ever there was a bird that would be completely at home among the leaves turning to shades of oranges, russets and yellows, it would have to be a fiery little redbreast.  And this was him today roundly scolding all the sparrows and tits that got in his way at the bird-feeders (see extra).

The other extra is another autumnally-coloured bird that made an appearance in the garden today.  We haven't seen him for months - and I know that at least two of my grandchildren will be very pleased to hear that he is back.  Tessa might not greet the news with all that much enthusiasm.  She came unexpectedly face to face with him a couple of years back - and they gave each other such a fright that I'm not sure she will ever quite forgive him ……………………..
