Afternoon walk
Dan and Abi were both working this afternoon and so the Minx and I decided to walk into Kirkby, taking the long route 'round via Underley. Walking back towards town along the path behind the churchyard, we saw that a load of foliage at had been cleared, offering new takes on Ruskin's View as well as down river (see extra).
We had a drink and a bite to eat at Botanica where Dan joined us when he finished work. He was going down to High Bentham later and the Minx casually suggested he should drive in the new car. I could see the reluctance in his face but also the acceptance that this was a bridge that needed crossing. (He's had a few lessons but that was before lockdown and he's convinced he's forgotten everything he ever learned.)
He and the Minx warmed up by taking Abi down to her mum's to give her some stuff for the charity shop and then I'd assumed they'd head on down to High Bentham but instead they came back to drop Abi off and pick me up!
I installed myself on the backseat and marvelled at the Minx's calm style of instructing. I'm sure I was never that good with my older daughter's (although Milly never went practising with me: I'm not sure why!). Anyway, Dan did really well and there were no dramas or white knuckles. So, hopefully, he's back on track to learning to drive.
