New arrival

This wee chap is being blipped not because he has any photographic merits but because he fascinated me.

He had all but emerged from his outer 'shell' and was in the process of drying off his wings when I stumbled across him. As I looked arond the garden I found heaps of cicada 'shells' so this one seems to have been a bit slower off the mark than the others. His colouring at this stage was very different to the cicada I blipped a few days ago - I wonder how long it takes for them to dry out to this darker colouring?

They really are quite fascinating bugs.
