Carry on Regardless

A definite “Blitz Spirit” in the air today. Went into town for our usual Sunday coffee and cake, and found a lot of shops open that have not bothered previously. The message seemed to be that “you’d better get your Xmas presents in the next few days as we don’t believe lockdown will end on the 2nd December”. A message reinforced later by Michael Gove who was keen to point out that 2nd December was only a “review date”
Needless to say, the public were well ahead of him and the shops and cafes seemed quite busy. Interestingly, Costa appeared to have gone back to takeaway only already but Nero were still allowing us in to sit down and still serving in crockery. Looking back over my blips from the last few months, it was Caffè Nero who were the first to do takeaway in the spring lockdown period and the first to allow us back inside in July. Looks like they’ll be the last to give up this time round and they were quick to let us know that they will remain open for takeaways over this next lockdown period.
So, coffee and cake followed by some light retail therapy this morning. More “normality” in the afternoon as I went to a Panto rehearsal and then the gym. Strange to think that none of this will be possible next week - and no firm date in sight as to when we might be able to do such things again.
The next few days will be spent doing as much as possible before it’s all taken away from us for a while. There are places to visit, people to see, “non-essential” things to buy and I want to get in as much gym time as possible.
Hopefully, I’ll be so exhausted by Thursday that the first couple of weeks of lockdown will seem like a holiday!
