Aester - Da Thomson Homestead

A fairly calm day, and sunny for the most of it.  A fine dry and calm evening too.

I've been working in the museum again, and another fairly quiet day.  Walkies with Sammy after work, and then headed to work in the shop this evening.  A steady night at work.  With the fine night, the fireworks came out.  Sadly I wasn't there for Sammy, but he's fine tonight when I got home.

The last family story link for this week takes me to my great granddad, Peter Jeremiah Thomson, father to my granny Lorna (Christie).  He was the 2nd oldest child to my 2x great grandparents, Margaret and Laurence Thomson. All 11 siblings were born here, Peter born 13 July 1883.  Aged 41 in 1924, he married my great granny Laura Smith (South Voxter).  They stayed at Gord, where aunt Maggie, granny Lorna and aunt Ruby were born, then moving to Tow Farm by the 1930s, where son John Thomas was born, but he sadly died aged 2, from meningitis.  Peter passed away at Tow Farm, 19 June 1948, aged 64.  He was a much loved man, and spoken highly of, and not only by my granny, who spoke of him fondly.  He was long gone before I was born, also before my dad (namesake), but I do have great memories of my great granny Lowra (Laura), his wife.  Granny Lowra was born in 1897, and passed away in 1990 aged 92, I was 9yo.  Their house was very old fashioned, still with an old stove, where umpteen teapots sat.  We usually had to sit quietly, waiting patiently for the arrival of the sweetie jar, and the only toy to play with was the old knitted snake, used as a draft excluder.  This is the house where Peter was born, which is still connected with our family, through Peter's youngest brother, William.  Taken at Aithsetter, Cunningsburgh.
