Aftermath
Whenever the SatNav suggests a route, I like to take a look at the alternatives, especially when the first route offered has a lot of motorway, which is, to me, the most boring form of driving. Sometimes the routes that take longer are actually a bit shorter, too.
Thus I can get from Salford to Kirkby Lonsdale via the M61 and M6 in an hour and a quarter but the far more scenic (and shorter) route, skirting around the Forest of Bowland, only takes twenty minutes longer.
The skies were beautiful as I drove that way, this afternoon, watching the sun go down but by the time I found somewhere to pull over that had a decent view it had descended below the horizon. The aftermath is still pretty impressive, though.
