Letterbox

This is a letterbox near my home. You might make out the initials 'GR' so it pre-dates the queen. I'm intrigued by the fact it's still standing, surrounded as it is by quiet suburban streets in a quiet corner of a quiet area.

I sent some Christmas cards a couple of months ago, and short of that, haven't posted a letter in an age. I wonder how much it stands as monument over function.
