Another great walk

We met Katy and Colin at Alnham Church for a walk Katy had planned. It was very steep as we climbed out of the valley then we went across a quagmire of bog for quite some time till she realised we should have cut off to the left ages before the bog. Mr C thought he knew the route she wanted to take us but his way was a lot further.

We ended up almost at Ewertlyshank, the remote farm near the Ingram Valley where in 1961 two shepherds perished in an unexpected snow storm. I remember it well as it had been announced on TV news and my Dad knew the shepherd who had died. His brother lived on the same farm as us so Dad went to tell him and drive him to where the parents lived so that their son could give them the bad news. There is now a plaque outside Alnham Church.

We found our way back easily and descended to the cars by a way I’d not gone before. It was interesting to find a slightly different route. The picture shows how this is not an area to be walking in when the weather changes. (We once did it in the winter and thick fog descended. We were glad to have our map and compass that day.

Scotland is playing France today - rugby. I dare not watch.

I have watched all of Queen’s Gambit and after an interesting beginning felt let down. Back to West Wing
