Looks Good
On a dismal, misty and wet day Clare and I set of for a walk to pick up her new glasses and enjoy a stretch of the legs. We walked through the town until we arrived behind the Maritime Museum where this beauty could be seen.
The beauty in question and the yacht I was trying to get a clear shot of is J Class yacht, Velsheda, she was designed by Charles Nicholson and built in 1933 by Camper & Nicholson’s at Gosport in Hampshire.
She was built for businessman William Lawrence Stephenson and between 1933 and 1936, she won many races competing with other yachts of her era.
Stephenson was the chairman of Woolworths and named the yacht after his three daughters; Velma, Shiela and Daphne.
There was another equally beautiful yacht in astern of her but we couldn’t identify her.
