Beaver Moon

I thought it was appropriate to blip this year's Beaver Moon because we actually have captive beavers very near to us now, brought to the county earlier this year. The male is called Glen and the female, Dragonfly. This is part of a 5-year experiment.

Some say November's full moon is called the Beaver Moon as it's the time beavers make their homes secure for the winter. Others say its when the North Americans laid their traps when beaver skins were popular for hats.

I got up through the night as it was also due to be a lunar eclipse visible between 4.30 and 5.30 am, which would have resulted in a red colouration. No luck. It was raining !

Did you know that the last full moon was 31st October? I always thought the moon had a 28-day cycle. Wrong again! I was expecting this to be a blue moon but we wont get another of those until 2023.
