Diary of an Edinburgher

Porty Beach!

Up slightly earlier this morning - we were collecting wee Pretzel for the day - her humans are moving across town. And what did we see when we went out? SNOW! I don’t like icy pavements, and it was still icy at the unearthly hour of 8.30am.

JR went off for a haircut, and by mid morning, the day improved. In fact, it was so sunny and still that I suggested the beach. JR wasn’t too keen, but actually it was perfect. And sand is much easier to walk on than icy pavements. Archie had to have his tartan coat on, and he stood stock still in the bedroom, sulking, while the rest of us got ready, and Pretzel ran about like a daft thing. However, once at the beach, he forgets about it.

I bought a liver muffin, which is always a big hit with the dogs. So they ran back and forth between us for ages. Pretzel can easily outrun Arch.

Two women were swimming! And one wee dog was burying his treat (with his nose) in the sand for later. When we came back along, his mum said that another dog had eaten it. She says that he never learns.

We stopped at the caravan for a coffee, and were tempted by the vege roll, which was very tasty, but messy to eat. So many dogs, including a massive French Bull Dog, with all his bits very obviously intact, but I don’t think Archie would have dared say anything, even though he was wearing the silliest coat ever with reindeer horns on it. They sat at the table right next to us, and JR was pulling Archie away and explaining to the owner,
‘He doesn’t like un-neutered dogs’ to which she replied
‘Yes, he’s a French Bull Dog.’
‘I know, but our dog is afraid of un-neutered dogs...’
‘No, there’s a lot of them about.’
She thought JR was saying ‘unusual dogs’. Language problems. I wandered off.

In fact, the weather was so balmy, we stopped at the ice cream caravan, and two cones were ordered. Hang on... CASH ONLY! Sadly, we never have any cash nowadays.

Back home, and after a wee sit down, we took a fancy to tidying out yet another cupboard, one that we have avoided thus far. A very good job done, and the car boot is filled with stuff for the charity shop in the morning.

Pretzel has gone off home, but she’ll come over tomorrow, as it’s the actual moving day.
