a lifetime burning

Hallowed Island

Another shot of St Thomas à Becket church at Pensford, taken this morning, once the sun had risen enough to cast some light on things.  The church is now a dwelling, I'm not sure I would want to live in the middle of a grave yard, surrounded by a river that has form for flooding ...

Its been a productive day, in that the cards are written and posted/delivered.  I've still not put up our tree though ...

I've had a good chat with Dad in his care home via Skype this evening.  He's had a dreadful cold over the last week, but the cough seemed to respond to weak tea with honey and lemon and managed to get to sleep as a result.  In the course of our conversation he mentioned, slightly ruefully that the traditional addition of a little medicinal alcohol wasn't possible as they don't seem to have alcohol in the home.  To be honest, Dad is on so many meds for his Parkinsons that alcohol doesn't really agree with him anyway nowadays, so he doesn't really miss it.  Mentally he is as bright as a button at the moment and regaled me with his latest quiz victories over other residents - not bad for an 89 year old.

We assume that he is somewhere towards the top of the priority list for the vaccine roll out - along with all the other care home residents across the country.  Whether he will be lucky enough to get vaccinated in this first batch we don't know, we can only cross our fingers and hope.
