Golf anyone?
It was getting dark when we passed the new 'golfball' at RAF Brizlee Wood near Alnwick, but I couldn't resist a photo or two all the same. The previous golfball, a local landmark, was dismantled at the beginning of the year, and the new new 'streamlined' one was built over the summer. It's part of the UK's early warning system and apparently contains the radar that provides real-time information on potential air threats to UK air space. Far from being top secret, it's lit up at night and can be seen for miles around.
We were on the way back from Alnwick after fetching the hinges that weren't available for collection on Saturday, and buying two more paint match pots. Neither MrM nor I liked the colours we tried before! I've already tried the two new shades and we've decided against buying this particular brand of paint, as neither of the colours was remotely the same as on the paint chart. Both supposed to be shades of grey, one can only be described as sludge green, and the other is a definite shade of violet! We've already decided on a shade of slaty blue from another, unfortunately much-more-expensive brand - but from experience we're fairly confident that the colours on the chart are accurate.
Home to cook cullen skink for our evening meal, inspired by a recipe published recently in the Guardian. Delicious!
