Shedding a Light on Boxing Day

The gods were certainly on our side yesterday providing weather allowing for
al fresco dining. Today was a very different story as I strode forth into a wind that veered towards stiff gale force at times with rain starting half way round my circuitous route.

The streets were empty and the shops shut, but rather than looking forward to them opening up again on Monday, the future is bleak.
The first lockdown in March was a bit of an adventure; having never been in the situation before, we rose to the occasion to a man/woman. Houses were cleaned, banana cakes were baked in their hundreds, toilet rolls were stacked to the ceiling, indoor exercise was encouraged every day at 9am and many outdoor walks discovered parts of our environment we never knew existed.

Now however it is all a different story. Everyone is weary of the rules and regulations and living solitary lives especially when it’s midwinter and daylight is a scant 6-7 hours. It’s hard to feel any motivation to actually do anything when there is nothing open and any sortie is likely to be alone.

I live in hope that the regulators will pass the Oxford vaccine before the end of the year so that we can all get vaccinated to a level that allows things get back to normal.
Meanwhile at 2:15pm I think I will pull the blinds down to avoid looking at the dismal dreich afternoon outside and light my butterfly candles from one of my Merry Widows.
