Mug
I am of an age and sufficient good fortune that my main consideration when it comes to my Christmas budget for the kids' presents is that they perceive that I've spent a similar amount on each of them.
They, being younger, and somewhat earlier on in their various careers or still at school, work to a more restrictive budget, yet I have to say that this leads to a far more imaginative approach to present buying.
This is the mug that Abi gave me, complete with the tongue-in-cheek "best pals" comment. I love it. (Also, look how far print tech for this kind of gift has come!)

One of the family traditions we have at Christmas is that we spend the evening reading in front of the fire. Thus, I spent the evening full of turkey and chocolates, sipping wine, and finishing Robert Galbraith's 'Troubled Blood'.
(Before I go any further, let me just say that anyone looking for supporting evidence here around JK Rowling's issues with the trans community has been misled by some fairly hysterical comments; the serial killer is not a cross-dresser.)
It may seem I've been reading this a while - just under three weeks, in fact - but it is nearly a thousand pages long and, hand on my heart, I've enjoyed every one of them. I've heard many criticisms of JKR's style but I think she's a brilliant storyteller. Sure, in the Strike books, as with the Harry Potter ones, there’s a lot of explanation at the end but, actually, I really enjoy it and it doesn't lessen my enjoyment in any way. If you haven't read the Strike series, I do recommend it: I hope the next one is just as long!
