Oidhche na Bliadhn’ Ùire/ Hogmanay
The last day of the year, and the seventh day of Christmas, could not have been dreicher as evidenced by this rather gloomy blip of the semi frozen pond in Maxwell Park. In the middle there was an area occupied by the ducks that had thawed. It was a degree or so warmer today, making the pavements even more treacherous. Had we not been looking after Islay I would not have ventured out. We returned soaked and chilly. Islay spent some time with E while I braved the supermarket, queue approx 50 people deep although it moved quite rapidly and once inside it was less crowded than I was expecting. Quite relieved when she was collected early and I didn’t have to do an afternoon walk.
A quiet evening ahead, we had a late night last night watching Uncle Vanya so not sure if we will manage two in a row. I cannot recall when we last whooped it up at Hogmanay so tonight won’t feel that different. Looking forward to the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Iceland live from Reykjavik, just before The Bells, conveniently in the same time zone, in the winter.
