HOARFROST CRYSTALS ----LATE BREAKING INFORMATION

This is hoarfrost. For those of you in warmer climes, hoarfrost happens when the relative humidity is relatively high but the temperature is just below the freezing point. Water vapor condenses from the air directly into ice crystals which will continue to grow in size until the temperature warms or the dew point drops.

LATE BREAKING NEWS: The weather service announced that the frosty coating on the trees was caused by freezing fog.....which makes this phenomenon rime ice and not hoar frost. Rime ice forms when supercooled droplets of water freeze on contact with a surface which is below freezing. Hoar frost forms in the absence of fog.

EXTRAS: You can see , rime ice, seen from a wider point of view, transforms the landscape into a scene from the movie Dr. Zhivago. Perfect for a mono-Monday exhibition.
