Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2021 Friday — Setting Sail

This scene conveys so much to me — we’re setting sail and we have a vague concept of what the journey will involve.
We were at Tidelands Park in the city of Morro Bay when I caught this moment on my phone camera. We had already walked the pups at a park in an area called the Cloisters, which is the name of a hotel that used to be in that area 70 or 80 years ago. We finished walking and decided to drive through the community that has a beautiful back bay and estuary.

As we were slowly motoring thru the Tidelands Park parking lot, I could see the small sailboat coming and Mr.Fun parked and I stepped out of our vehicle and toward the water. As soon as I captured the photo, I knew I had my photo for the day.

Because of the year that has just ended and all the tragedy it contained — globally with a pandemic, nationally with an election, and personally with Mr. Fun’s cancer — this new year arrives with a bit more “unknown” than I usually consider. I’m so glad that I put my trust in God years ago and I believe whole-heartedly that nothing happens that He is not aware of.

Twenty-twenty was a hard year for our nation and world. There were hard things about it for all of us. But for me, hard things and all, I’m so thankful for what God did in our lives. He brought our grandson-in-law home safely after 9 months of deployment with the U.S. Navy. He provided quality medical advice and treatment for Mr. Fun regarding prostate cancer. He allowed me to successfully finish my 30-year college teaching career and retire. God has faithfully provided for us. I give God thanks for everything He has allowed in our lives this past year. I trust His leadership. He is always working for our good

Mr. Fun & I have been read thru the Bible together every year since the summer of 1982 and we know the end of the story. I think that’s why I don’t get caught-up in the moment by moment anxiety producing news. We do try to stay in touch with all the news — we watch the news from the left, from the liberals, and from the conservatives and try to view it all with logic. My most repeated prayer is “God, save this nation.”

I believe America has done so much good for the world, and I do know that our nation is not innocent; there has been corruption and crime, but I believe the overall heart of Americans is to do what’s right. Thousands of immigrants have come to America legally and worked very hard and diligently and they have prospered and love this country. I also know there are many people who get stuck in the welfare system and never get out — that could have been the two of us after getting married at 15 & 19. Thankfully we never opted for welfare, but instead we worked. I don’t have answers for the big issues, except to honor and trust God. I do believe this nation was founded on and built on good intentions, not evil ones.
