isolation
Today I went to see Joe and to give him and Kim their Christmas presents, which were still under our tree.
Of course we had to meet outside, so we went for a walk around his neighbourhood. There's a big green space behind his house and at the entrance, two tall sandstone pillars on which is written "Dumfries and Maxwelltown/ Combination Fever Hospital 1910". The green space is empty. I had never heard of this hospital before , so looked it up and discovered that it closed in 1978 and was demolished in 1990.
There were once hundreds of these hospitals in the UK, and during the Covid pandemic, there have been calls for similar facilities to be available - see here.
Meanwhile, here in Scotland, we are back in lockdown. I can't say I'm surprised.
Extra - Joe's cat in a box :-)
