Miscellany.

An ordinary day yet at the same time it feels quite an important day as yesterday we were able to get a last minute appointment . to have our vaccine . I’m feeling quite emotional about it all , incredibly grateful to all the staff who made the visit both enjoyable and efficient. It felt like the centre was being run by the people , for the people . We were greeted with smiles and encouraging words . Such a contrast to other aspects of our country’s response to the pandemic . We both feel a bit out of sorts today but we’re told to expect that as it’s a signal that our immune systems have been activated and are doing their job .

The adventure map features because we have just booked a camper van for a fortnight in May . It’s a provisional booking as it’s unclear whether holidays of any sort will be going ahead .
We want to buy our own van but just at the moment it seems too complicated. The van we are hiring is closer to the size we are after .

The strange collection of bits are the tools that my beloved and personal repair man used to repair my thumb nail . I am the least glamorous person you can imagine but when my thumb nail split down the middle this morning urgent action was required ! It has been repaired beautifully with a teabag and superglue , finished off with glittery nail varnish ( it’s all I possess ). Another cause for gratitude.

The books relate to my dad and our Saturday phone call.
He seems world weary and too fed up to converse so I though I would read to him . They are all books which are his , in my safe keeping , so I knew that he would recognise them . He has always been a passionate man, caring deeply about social justice and its place with a life lived out through his faith . He also had a great love for Scotland , especially Barra in the Outer Hebrides . My parents used to attend a Catholic mass everyday and we used to tease them that when they went to Barra the priest would end up exhausted as although mass was said every day it would be in chilly, remote chapels on small lonely islands .
He chose a chapter from Daniel O’Leary’s “Already Within . “
Oscar Wildes , The Selfish Giant . “ Both brought tears to my eyes because they deal with human imperfections , forgiveness and unconditional acceptance.
I don’t know what my dad got from it all, he looked like he was snoozing , but they certainly touched my heart

The tablecloth is a shower curtain that once held my interactive science display. It’s new job will be to provide a lining for a portable nappy changing mat , tomorrow’s project .
