Sad Days

No visit to Aldershot Military Cemetery this year but my brother, who lives in Aldershot, went on behalf of us all.

Nine years, seems to have passed in the blink of an eye, missed every day, as is my Dad.
The flowers won’t last long, although the cemetery is surrounded by barracks, main roads and is fenced in it has deer. Over night they will eat the flowers and they are very welcome to them.

Looking at this headstone, if you were to turn 180* you would be looking at a footpath about six feet in front of you running from your left to your right. It finishes to the right as the shrubbery starts. On the opposite side of that path are the graves of all the members of the Parachute Regiment, killed in action at the Falkland Islands in 1982 and repatriated home, the youngest 17.
Slightly behind and to the left of those graves lie service personnel killed in action in actions since, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and elsewhere. The whole cemetery is an amazing place and acts as a record of Britain’s military conflicts.

My parents are in great company.
