Country House

Beginning to despair of getting the work we had planned for our house completed - or even started - any time in the near future, so decided to check out the option of moving house instead. Having entered all appropriate criteria into Rightmove, we ended up with a short list of half a dozen possibles. With a spread of £100K between dearest and cheapest, we thought we’d go and have a quick drive around to see if we could narrow it down further. Quickly discounted the ones furthest away from where we are now - just couldn’t be doing with having to get in the car every time we wanted something.
Which leaves four. One is a quirky town centre property. The big compromise being lack of views. On the plus side, probably wouldn’t need two cars if we lived there. One is only a few hundred yards from where we live now but offers an extra bedroom. Would need a bit of work to bring it up to spec. The cheapest one also offers an extra bedroom and is closer to the gym. But would need a lot of work/expense to get it right.
And that brings us to the one in the photo. Not my photo I’m afraid - it was a bit dark and rainy whilst we were trying to nonchalantly drive past, so I’ve had to use the one off the front of the particulars. This property is in a village location but within walking distance of most things you would need. It also overlooks the river, which is a major plus point.
But - and this is a massive but - it is the most expensive. And needs a fair bit of modernisation. Which we wouldn’t be able to afford for several years.
So do we buy this lovely house and put up with its shortcomings until we can afford to have them put right? Do we go for one of the others, that we could afford to have modernised? Do we go for the quirky option and give up views and a garden in favour of town centre convenience?
Maybe we simply stay where we are and hope that the work can be done once lockdown starts to be eased.
Or do I buy a Euromillions lucky dip tomorrow in the hope I can then buy any house I want!!!
