Memory Quilt

This is a very special Memory Quilt that my sister and I made for our Mom and Dad and gave to them for their 50th Wedding Anniversary.   The different blocks represent their hobbies and interests, their employment, their children and grandchildren as well as their home and the island cottage.
The idea for this and the actual planning of the quilt blocks happened in the car while we were driving home from a trip.   Marionb drove and I wrote down the ideas.   By the time we were home we each had our own separate list of blocks to make.   Marionb also did all the work of putting it together and quilting it.   I was very grateful for that.   Since it is a 4 - 5  hour drive between our homes we couldn't just get together once in a while to work on it.
Mom and Dad's anniversary was in February but we celebrated it at the cottage during the summer instead, with many friends and family invited.   Both Mom and Dad were almost speechless when they opened this special gift.   Mom was an excellent quilter and knew just how much work went into it.
Many years later the quilt was hung on the wall in Mom's room at the nursing home and everyone who came in would ask her about the quilt and the stories behind some of the blocks.    Dad had passed away in 2003 and Mom passed away in 2016 and Marionb and I now share the quilt.   It is hanging in my living room now but I will soon give it back to her so she can enjoy it too.
