Electricity

Making the most of the sunshine today, Mrs C and I decided to walk to Asda for a few bits of shopping. Rather than just retrace our steps back home, we set off into “uncharted territory”. Even though we’ve lived here for thirty odd years, we very rarely venture over to the other side of the valley, so we just decided to wander in the general direction of home and see where we ended up.
Found a path heading in roughly the right direction and off we went. About halfway down I just had to stop and admire the brutality of this pylon. Growing up, we had one at the bottom of our garden but since moving to Kendal I’ve not lived anywhere near one. It was quite a shock seeing it planted in the middle of this large residential estate. And it wasn’t alone - the wires led off in two directions to further pylons. Not sure why there are pylons on only this side of the valley - one thought is that this estate was originally farmland so it wouldn’t have mattered having pylons scattered across it. When it was developed for housing, it was cheaper to leave the pylons up rather than bury the cables underground. But that’s just a guess on my part.
Finally exiting the estate onto a main road that would lead us home, we did take one last detour, cutting through the cemetery to admire the swathes of Crocus and Snowdrops, which looked glorious in the spring sunshine. Eventually arrived back home after a couple of hours, having covered a grand total of 5 miles. Considering Asda is only a mile from home, that’s quite a detour we took!
