The pheasant that lives in our garden
This pheasant escaped the annual shoot because he refused to fly. Now he lives in our garden.
Well, I exaggerate a little. He can fly but chooses instead to wander though the undergrowth of hedges and bushes, emerging from time to time to investigate the wild garden, tiptoe though the herbaceous borders or saunter gracefully across the lawns.
If startled he will take to the air, only to land in next-door’s garden.
He is very fond of peanuts and drinking from our pond. See link

A friend reminded me of the famous children’s story by Bamber Gascoigne of the pheasant who refused to fly in order not to get shot.
