The River Skell, otherwise known as ‘Resounding”, or, as known in ancient times, “Heaven Water”. It was the life-line for the Cistercian monastery, Fountains Abbey.
From 2021-2024 the grand total of £2.5 million will be spent on 15 projects that will safeguard, preserve and develop the full length (just 12 miles) of the river. Projects will include conservation, sustainability and access. It’s already. Remarkable place and it’ll be great to see how things progress over the next 4 years.
