End of the line
The spaniel and I had a long walk this misty grey morning, following the river Ouse south and then the river Uck north. I needed wellies but after ten miles was rather regretting them. At one point we had to cross the tracks of the Lavender Line near its terminus at Worth Halt. Trains only run on Sundays and not at all during pandemics so this was not a risky venture.
The line is a preserved (one mile) section of the old Lewes to Uckfield railway which ran from 1858 to 1969. Restoration took place between 1983 and 1987 and included building a replica of the waiting room for the station at Isfield. The original had been removed and rebuilt at our more famous local 'heritage' railway the Bluebell Line. Incidentally its called the Lavender Line after the local coal merchants who operated from the station yard at Isfield and has nothing to do with lavender.
