The Tide is High

Well, it was, about an hour before - the tidal flow in Morecambe Bay is pretty swift, which is why attempting to cross it can be so dangerous. And that’s assuming you can dodge the quicksand.
We had to wait until lunchtime before the promised sunshine appeared, but that still gave us plenty of the day left to enjoy it. Taking advantage of the newly relaxed travel restrictions - but still wishing to stay local - we headed out to Arnside for a walk along the shore.
As the tide had not long turned when we got there, it rather curtailed the length of walk we could do as neither of us fancied ploughing through the fresh mud on the foreshore after the concrete path ran out. It was so nice and warm in the sun though, that it was pleasant just sitting and gazing out across the estuary whilst eating our ice creams.
The coastguard had obviously been out at some point on their jet skis, as they were being recovered as we walked past. I’m guessing it was an exercise rather than a rescue as everyone was very chilled and chatting to passers by.
We had the roof down on the car for the journey there and back - so good to be able to see, hear and smell nature in all its glory. Arrived back home feeling refreshed and invigorated. Amazing what an hour or so in the sunshine, away from your “prison” of the last three months, can do for the soul.
But, like all nice days in the Lake District, we needed to make the most of it because the forecast is all downhill for the rest of the week. And next week looks even worse with snow possible from Sunday!
