Dent Head Viaduct

Dent Head Viaduct was built between 1869 and 1875 for the Midland Railway Company. The viaduct is built from massive blocks of Dent marble and crosses over the quarry that produced it. (From Visit Cumbria)

With the clocks changing, we can go out driving later and still get some lovely light! This afternoon, we went out to Austwick, then across to Helwith Bridge, and then west to Ribblehead. At this point I thought we'd be turning left down to Ingleton but Dan fancied a longer drive so we went up to Dent instead.

We've had some rubbish weather recently but as you can see, whilst it was a bit overcast, it was clear and the light was lovely working perfectly with these colours.

And there are the ten arches of Dent Head Viaduct, which Visit Cumbria tells me are one hundred feet high.

I'm always fascinated by these grand structures in the middle of nowhere, sitting quietly, awaiting the occasionally appreciative glance from a passer-by.
