Beware the Black Crow....
Vineyard owners use a variety of methods to protect their crops. They are in full protection mode at present protecting the grapes from large flocks of mainly tiny birds.
The gas guns are roaring from 7.am until dusk.
Some owners employ people to drive around the through their vineyards on ATVs. (All Terrain Vehicle which is a sort of four wheel drive motorbike.) These vehicles make a lot of noise and the drivers also ride shotgun and have fun blasting away. Needless to say, this can only happen on properties where there is no public access.
Netting the grapes is popular with two sorts of netting used. The first covers the vines completely like brides in full veils. The second sort of skims along the vines and is clipped into place. That netting just covers the ripening grapes.
Kites are popular and the one pictured in today's blip is called a "Sky Crow".
I reckon the vineyard owner has fixed it in position up-side-down as the feet are on the upper-side of the kite. Nevertheless it is very effective flying freely in the breeze from a tall flexible pole. It flaps around a bit and its tinsel streamers tinkle gently in the wind... So birds...beware the Black Crow......
