Blyth Sculpture

On our way home we had an errand near the East coast and continued to Blyth to partake of our picnic lunch. According to the internet, this sculpture, entitled The Spirit of the Staithes is by Simon Packard  and adorns the Quay at Blyth harbour. The sculpture is composed of several segments, and when viewed from a certain angle appear in the form of a coal powered steam engine. I hadn't known this but can almost verify it from the photo.

We then drove to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea to stroll along the promenade, accessed past these jaunty puffin-topped bollards and to potter on the flat rocky shore (see extra). Among the dogs being walked we spotted a Bedlington Terrier, named for the town just a few kms away, I think of as the canine equivalent to the Herdwick sheep.

We journeyed in excellent weather, a slight haze dampening any glare from the sun and we met patchy rain only after Coldstream so, apart from a long delay on the by-pass, were home and greeted warmly by Bramble in comfort. Rather tired now, so shall comment tomorrow.
