Getting stuck into a 99

Bitterly cold easterly wind with sunshine and dry again. So very dry. I read somewhere that temperatures could be nudging 30c by the Bank Holiday weekend. Yikes!

We’re always clock watching on a Sunday as it all revolves around Doreen and the time she has to get back to her home so her carer can help her to bed. The latest the carers will come is 8.30. It used to be 9.30 until the care providers asked for it to be an hour earlier during the winter as a temporary measure. Ha! Doreen’s going to bed in daylight now. Where’s the respect for the wishes of the individual?

We took Doreen to Herne Bay this afternoon, she’s hardly been out except for hospital appointments, and was desperate for a trip out. Being on the North Kent coast the seafront felt the full blast of that wind. It was fine with the wind at your back and sun on your face, turn the other way and your eyes and nose streamed, ears tingled and cap blew off.

By good fortune, the pier cafe was ideal, great shelter behind a perspex screen and facing the sun. We didn’t feel it was warmed enough for ice cream but Doreen did! We had tea and scones. Despite the number of people around we didn’t feel particularly anxious. It was a push to get back home, cook dinner and watch last week’s episode of Call the Midwife all before 8.30. We did it!
