Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2021 Saturday — 56th Anniversary

Early this Saturday evening we drove away from the coastline, something we rarely do if we are going out to celebrate. Our motto is “hug the H20.”

But tonight we had a date with a place. This evening we officially ended our statement, “We’ve never had dinner at the Madonna Inn.” We’ve been told the Madonna steakhouse in San Luis Obispo, California, is quite good, and it was.

The doctor told me this past Tuesday night when I was discharged from the ER with possible gallbladder problems to “eat a low-fat diet.” So I knew that steak would not be an option tonight, but I did snitch several bites from Mr. Fun’s plate.

These are photos from our wonderful evening . . . and finally one little story. I asked Mr. Fun a year ago if we could purchase a wedding ring for me. I lost my original ring in a swimming pool when we had been married 8-years. I’ve had several replacements over the years, and one was cut off my finger when I needed stitches.
So a real ring was a desire. It didn’t happen last year.

Yesterday in a fun little gift shop in Cambria, Mr.Fun found a display of pretty rings and wanted me to try a few on; so I did.

We decided on one, and there at the cash register he pulled off the tag, took ahold of my left-hand, and slid the ring on while speaking out loud these words “With this ring . . . “ The moment started in jest and quickly became eternal.

We have recited our vows in public no less than 5-times. Doing so is meaningful for us. Yesterday the woman at the cash register almost gasped as she caught the significance of what we were doing. I said to Mr. Fun, “You need to kiss me.” And he did.

So friends, we got married again during these celebration days of our 56th wedding anniversary, and this evening we enjoyed a grandiose dinner. Tomorrow we start year 57.
