Life through the lens...

By ValC

Still very cold, but not the wind chill we had yesterday.

Lovely sunshine most of the day, but this was as much of a sunset as we got.
You can however see the snow on the Pennines in the distance.
( Shot taken from an upstairs window.)
We are lucky to have none here.
I feel so sorry for anyone caught up in the travel chaos last night.
A night spent in a car in those freezing conditions must have been horrendous.

We had a very enjoyable wine tasting and meal last night.
The two presenters run HC Wines in York. see here Quite an amusing web site!

We were really surprised that two of the wines were from vineyards we visited in 2011, in the South of France.

A white Picpoul de Pinet, from Domaine de Beauvignac, in the Languedoc
A lovely dry, fruity, lemony, tasting wine with a soft finish. Good with fish or shell fish.
A white Viognier, from Domaine la Madeleine Saint Jean. This vineyard is in the town of Marseillan. A lovely little fishing port where the Canal du Midi enters the Bassin de Thau. 25 miles North West of Montpellier.

The last white was from Domaine Treloar. Made from the Muscat grape.
This vineyard is owned by a Yorkshireman. Jonathan Hesford.
Until 2001 he was an IT specialist working in New York.
On Sept. 11 2001 he was working one block away from the World Trade Centre.
The following day he decided to follow his dream, and run a vineyard in France.
The name he gave the wine we tasted is "One Block Muscat".
(Not quite as keen on this white)

We then tasted three reds.
Chateau Lamothe- Vincent. Bordeaux Superieur.
Clos de Bagatelle Donnadieu Cuvee Matthieu et Marie AOC St Chinian.
Domaien Jean- Marc Lafont. Beaugolais Cru AOC St Amour.

Liked all three !!

Very good evening had by all!
