Out for a Stroll

I let Shelley out of his enclosure and have a walk in the garden.  It was sunny and he seemed to enjoy it.  Well, by that, I mean that he headed for the long grass and weeds to escape as fast as he could.  If you have never seen a determined tortoise, you would be stunned how fast they can “run”.  Not so much running, as a rapid walk.  He has to be watched carefully because he can hide very quickly indeed if you take your eyes off him.  He survived the winter hibernation all by himself.  We did nothing special, other than made sure that he was under cover and had a suitable box to sleep in.  He put himself in there and when he felt it was ok, reappeared in the spring.
