Diary of an Edinburgher

A day at the beach

With this continued lovely weather, we decided to head for the beach at Gullane, along the coast, so we booked lunch at the ‘Bonnie Badger’. We took Archie with us, and I sat in the back with him clipped into his harness, and he was not sick at all on the way! Yay!

But today was overcast, windy and muggy. We had a very windswept walk along the beach, further than we’ve been before. Archie had great fun.

The Bonnie Badger is dog friendly, and at one point there were four dogs in. Two dogs near us barked a bit, but Archie was good as gold. Yes, I did ask for the godawful loud twangy rock muzak (for the barman’s pleasure) to be either turned down or changed.

On the way back home, Archie and I sat in the front. We stopped for an ice cream at one of the ‘bents’ (beaches). He was doing so well, but as we neared home, we went through Duddingston, and over many ‘sleeping policemen’ and bumpy roads and stop/start at traffic lights… So yes, he was sick. I had a poo bag ready to shove his face into, so no mess. JR and he got out early, and walked the last mile or so home.

We finished watching ‘Mare of Easttown’ last night. And I’m sorry to say, despite most of the world loving it, we were less than enthused. It’s not my favourite genre - ie gritty detective with a disfunctional family and troubled past, surrounded by dodgy bearded men, with the obligatory young girls murdered/kidnapped/preyed upon, and throw in a red herring every half hour or so… with the silliest ‘twist’ at the end. Still, I’ll have a look round NOWtv while I’m here to see what else is on offer.
