A tale of two roses

Both presents from (different) friends, one for a birthday and one for retirement. Birthday rose is sad and dying. Retirement rose is blooming.

I have tried to nurture birthday rose with food and attention and it’s not improved…

I don’t know what Freud would make of it - probably nothing? Me neither - some plants live, some plants die? Circle of life?
