Doncaster
It didn't take long to get to Doncaster this morning and there was only one lock - Long Sandall Lock - which was manned by a CRT lock keeper.
We're moored right near the centre of Doncaster behind secure railings and a gate only accessible to boaters with the key.
The Blip shows the coal shute and canal buildings from bygone days when mining played a big part in this area and coal barges transported the coal up and down the waterways.
We had a walk round town which has a thriving indoor and outdoor market.
We didn't stay out for long as it was extremely busy everywhere and too crowded for our liking. We walked back via the Cathedral which although a beautiful building has quite deteriorated with crumbling stone work.
We will only stay here one night as we are moored near a busy road bridge and there are loads of boy racers with noisy and backfiring exhausts and lots of motorbikes roaring along as well as sirens.
I was watching through binoculars, a couple of lads under the other bridge in front of us. They were magnet fishing - sea magnets are really strong - they hauled out a bike and 2 shopping trolleys just while I was watching!
Bella had her dinner on the pontoon - Al Fresco (she actually knows what that means!)
We just watched an amazing film on Film4 called Hidden Figures. I won't go into it but here's a link. Suffice to say it's a true story about racial and gender discrimination at NASA in the 60's. One of the best films I've seen.

Book and bedtime now.
Hope you are all having a good weekend.
