Quod oculus meus videt

Speckled Wood

An auspicious day, as L crossed over the road on Meg without my help.  I was there, not too far away, but she did it without me being there to escort them while they rode along the road for about 200 metres.  Meg was golden and the traffic respectful of a horse and rider on a busy road, with a blind summit at the point where they had to cross.

After that I joined them in the local woods where tree felling was taking place.  I think I may have seen a machine that saves the most time compared with manual labour.  From the moment the operator swung the contraption onto the tree, it took just 15 seconds to fell it, remove all of the branches and section the trunk into 3 metre lengths.  Truly amazing.  I was trying to estimate how long it would take people to do the same and I struggled to think it could be done in less than half an hour.

The shot is of a Speckled Wood and rather than a true macro lens I used the 200-500mm lens.  I've also added another shot of the new foal with its dam.  I don't want you to worry, although the leg is raised it was used with incredible care and delicateness to push the foal away.
