Liberté Égalité Vélocité avec Lanterne Rouge
Today I thought I would go with a cycling theme as the Tour de France is currently taking place.
My brother, again acting as my model, is wearing a t-shirt with a twist on the founding ideals of the French Revolution to give it a cycling spin.
Lanterne Rouge (a term only I only found out about thanks to my fellow blipper Bridgeman) is the competitor in last place in a cycling race. In the Tour de France the rider who finishes last, rather than dropping out of the race, is accorded the distinction of "Lanterne Rouge".
The phrase itself comes from the French for "Red Lantern" and originally referred to the red lantern hung on the rear vehicle of a passenger railway train or a freight train, which signalmen would look for, in order to make sure none of the coupling has become disconnected.
For today's image I thought I would go for a slightly surreal take on the cycling theme so my brother is sitting on a stationary exercise bike in front of our garage door (I couldn't get hold of an expensive racing bike or travel to a spectacular French mountainside!) and the lanterne rouge is represented by a red bucket on his head!
