A Ghost in Reverie
There she is, beautiful and beguiling, the painting entitled 'A Ghost in Reverie'.
This day has been nearly a year in the making. I wrote the melody and vocal for my song Seattle Mornin' nearly a year ago in a Seattle hotel room around 4am. I have an emotional bond to Seattle, which has much to do with inspiring-friends and a certain Seattle Camera Club.
During that Seattle weekend, the context for the song became clear, but I worked for months on the words before they truly encapsulated the themes about which I wanted to write. Then there was the search for a painter, an artist who could truly represent the song visually. Britain, Europe, Asia, cubist, digital cubism, abstract, text art; all these keywords to find a painter who might have the vision to reveal the song.
Then I walked into the Loft Arts Association's 'Open Studios' event last November, and met Paul Larson.
Some things are meant to happen for a reason.
Having a painter paint wasn't enough. I wanted to film him in session and make the footage a strong part of the music video. I also wanted to interweave both art forms by having lyrics of the song carved into the painting.
We achieved both.
The music video will come out late Summer. However, today was about enjoying the 'rainbow's end': having both singer and painter unveil their work to the public.
There she was, beautiful and beguiling, this painting entitled 'A Ghost in Reverie'.
Click here to view the filming of the song being performed for the first time in the Loft Arts Galley, just after Paul unveiled the painting and here if you would like to hear the mp3 as a single track before it comes out on the second album in Summer 2013.
