The miracle of metamorphosis

The caterpillar we named Raheem is the first to emerge from his chrysalis. We missed the event - went into the garden when nothing had happened and returned ten minutes later to a newly hatched butterfly.

He spent a good couple of hours adjusting to his new form, resting and expelling red meconium before fluttering up to the top of the net.

He’ll have some friends soon as some others look ready to hatch.
