Pregnancy Testing

Not me.....our cows! We spent most of the morning pregnancy testing our milking herd. This photo shows our local Vet, scanning our cows with a wand (in his left hand). He inserted this wand into the cows rectum, and can then see from the small screen on his head, whether or not she is in calf. If he wasn't sure, he then did a physical pregnancy test, by inserting his right hand (or should I say arm) into the cows rectum to see if he could feel a calf. We had a very good in-calf pregnancy rate, which was very pleasing.

We had a cool start to the morning; 6.8 degrees when we went to milk in the early hours of the morning. The sun did eventually come out and it is currently 19.1 degrees C. We had another 11 mls of rain yesterday, so in total have had 83 mls. The grass is starting to turn green again, and we can already see some growth happening. Everyone is happy at Farmergirl's farm!
