On the theme of pugnacious creatures....

This is one of my male hummers. Hard to tell from this angle , but trust me , this is the male. He sits on the crook every morning now, and chases away all comers, incuding sometimes his female. What a cad! This is his flower, people. The other male has staked out the feeder under the apple tree and sits either in the apple , or on the dead lilac branch and also chases away all comers. That includes humans. Even the one who is refilling the feeder .
The third feeder is on the pear tree and I think there is yet another hummer that has that one covered, though I am not sure it isn't apple tree hummer  also patrolling that one. Feisty little critters they are ! annoyed buzzing follows me when I change the feeder if he is around.
The extra was through the window on a very dim Sunday morning. Unfortunately , they seem to like to visit   early Am and late afternoon/ evening the most  . So these are the best shots I have been able to get all summer . Of course if I had half a brain I would  keep a camera in my hand constantly because the best shot all summer would have been getting out of the car after church when he was in the purple butterfly bush for over 5 minutes . That was pretty funny because there was a skipper in the bush that kept trying to land on the same flower the hummer was in  and the hummer kept trying to either chase it away or eat it , I'm really not sure which! I thought he was going for some protein with those carbs.
I hope they stay around for another few weeks! I'd like another try :)
